The problem with self-improvement is that it’s not the one-time, quick-fix that most of the industry wants you to think it is. It’s not like you can just read a book or take a course, think positively, and suddenly you’re ‘fixed’. Life doesn’t work that way. So if you want to become a better version of yourself, you’ve got to work on that. Every. single. Day. Your personal growth has to become a habit – an integral part of your daily life – just like brushing your teeth, washing behind your ears or walking the dog. You have washed behind your ears today, right? So, in this blog post, I'm going to share 5 (pretty effortless) ways to improve yourself every day.
Ready to spark your personal growth?
Now just like a big, beefy personal trainer would bark at you to do more push-ups every day, I want you to focus on your mindset and self-improvement every day too. Build 1, 2, 3, or even all 5 of the things below into your daily life and you’ll see enormous results.
These are the ingredients to create more growth in everything else you do and accelerate your awesomeness. And the last one I’m going to give you is so huge that it’ll make all of the others more powerful (and almost nobody ever talks about it).
The best part is – you don’t even need to leave the house or break a sweat. So leave your sweatbands in the drawer and let’s get into it…
1. Create a powerful morning routine
The first tip I want to share to improve yourself every day is to create a morning routine. Why? Because the way you start each day will dictate the outcome of everything else you try to do that day. How you start your morning has a bigger impact than you can imagine.
And you have a morning routine right now – even if you don’t know it. Because regardless of whether you designed your morning routine or not, you currently do something when you first get up. And if it’s not been put together intentionally with a focus on giving you the best possible start to the day, then you’re probably missing a trick.
There are so many things you can do to build the perfect morning routine – I can’t possibly squeeze it in here, so I made a separate video called Some Morning Routine Ideas That Really Work. Or you can read the blog post How To Create An Effective Morning Routine.
2. Focus on positive input and positive output
The next tip I want to share is this. You need to spend some dedicated time each day learning about your personal growth. That could be through reading books, doing online courses, listening to a podcast, or watching self-improvement videos on my channel, and then doing exercises that will help you make the changes that you want to make.
Thinking about the treadmill doesn’t make you lose weight, right? So just thinking about your personal growth won’t change your life! You need to spend some time absorbing positive influences.
Choose whatever you prefer, as long as it's the thing you think will have the BIGGEST impact on your growth. And then spend some time with a pen and paper actually doing the activities and exercises that will help you create those transformations in your life. You could even consider building something, exploring hobbies, and activities, or diving into something creative.
And I'd like you to think of this not as spent but time invested in your self-improvement. You'll see – it will reap rewards massively as you build a happier, more confident, fulfilled, and empowered life.
3. Take a moment of silence
We live in such a busy, noisy, and distraction-filled world that all this noise clogs up our ability to relax, rejuvenate, and unwind. On top of everything in our own lives, we’re bombarded with everybody else’s agenda too. Even on an unconscious level, we’re absorbing millions of bits of information – problems that don’t concern us and worries that we shouldn't need to… worry about!
This all leads to more stress, increased anxiety, and heartache, even when it’s not even relevant to us and our lives. So I suggest you find some time for silence and mindfulness – it's a great thing to do to improve yourself every day. Just take a small opportunity to step away from everything and spend some time with yourself.
4. Force yourself to try something new
Change is terrifying, but it’s so good for us. And one of the best ways to grow is to stretch yourself. Just like the foods that are most healthy are often the ones that taste the worst, sometimes, even though change is hard, you need to need to do it to avoid being stuck in a rut.
I’m not asking you to move country or cut all your hair off here. It's not about doing something too drastic! Just find something small that you can change in your everyday life, like the route you take to the shops or the kind of food that you cook for dinner. These little changes train your mind to be more versatile, flexible, and open to new possibilities. And when you’re open to new possibilities, you'll see amazing things can happen!
5. Create a good evening routine
When it comes to things you can do to improve yourself every day, here's the big, important one that almost nobody ever talks about – your evening routine. You may have noticed there's a lot of hype around a morning routine. But not many people talk about an evening one. The thing is though, an evening routine is a massive key towards you following your morning’s one!
After all, if you don’t have a solid evening routine, there’s a fair chance you won’t sleep properly, or you’ll go to bed without the slate wiped clean, which won’t help you start the next day afresh. In other words, for your morning routine to work properly, you’ve got to nail your evening routine.
So will you give any of these tips a go? You don't even have to do all 5 things at once. Just pick one or two and go for those first. The key is to take action and start doing it because no one else is going to do it for you! And if you want to really improve yourself every day, by engineering these 5 simple things into your life, you'll experience a huge knock-on effect on everything else you do.
So what will you do first to improve yourself every day?
