The Story

He was born addicted to methamphetamine, in a jail-bound mother’s arms, to a father who collected debts for biker gangs. At sixteen he promised his sister he would drive his brother home. That night his brother asked him, and he said no. He carried it for twenty years before he said it out loud. Amanda moved nineteen times before she turned twenty one, the first in her family to reach college, certain that working harder was the only lever anyone had. They met in real estate and went from twenty houses a year to seven hundred and fifty. What they will tell you has almost nothing to do with houses. It is a question Jeff asks instead of why: what if this is not happening to me, what if it is happening for me?

01

Your truth is perspective, not fact

“I used to think truths were facts.” The facts do not move: his brother died, his mother took her own life. What moves is the question you ask about them. Jeff stopped asking why God was doing this to him and started asking what it was preparing him for. That single swap is the whole engine.

02

Take your inheritance and turn it

His mother ran a drug operation and was good at it: numbers, distribution, a team. His father was fearless. Jeff inherited negotiation, nerve and read-the-room instinct from two people who used them for harm, and pointed the same tools somewhere else. You are not obliged to discard what you were given.

03

Forgiveness is not a feeling, and it is not fast

He forgave his mother quickly, because he could imagine what she carried. Wesley, the driver, took years. The turn: Wesley’s younger brother Michael has been Jeff’s business partner for fifteen years, and together they took City Side from twenty transactions a year to seven hundred. “I lost a brother and gained another one.”

04

Don’t steal my struggle

Amanda’s rule at home: the only banned word is “can’t”. You may say “I need help” or “this is hard for me”. Struggle is where you find out who you are, so she refuses to take it from her children, and refuses to let anyone take it from her.

05

People don’t want to get rich, they want to stop being afraid

Nineteen moves by twenty one taught Amanda that stability was the real prize. “They want to be safe and secure and stable, and they want their kids to go to good schools. They just want a good life and they’re willing to work for it.”

06

Decide what the business is for, then hire to it

After his mother died, Jeff sat down with his wife, his coach and every agent and made the mission explicit. If a deal is wrong it does not happen, whatever it pays. He tells candidates before they join. Some leave. That is the point of saying it out loud.
