Founder · Sixthman
“He named his company after the sixth man on the bench. It ended up inventing an industry.”
The Story
He was never the starter, not on the basketball team, not in the band whose shows he booked. So he named his first company Sixthman, put 400 fans on a cruise with Sister Hazel in 2001, and turned it into roughly 150 sailings before selling to Norwegian Cruise Line. Sitting down with Trixy Castro one hour before 4,600 guests arrived at his newest venue, Andy explains why the best thing he has built is the thing that no longer needs him.
01
He wasn't the starter, and he wasn't the best guitarist in the band, he was the one who out-hustled everyone and booked the shows. He named his first company after that role, and it turned out to be the entire strategy.
02
At thirty, he sat in a businessman's house and watched him write a $740,000 cheque to charter an entire cruise ship. What the man was betting on wasn't the idea. It was that Andy would wear himself out before he let it fail.
03
One hundred and twenty days to build a venue out of bare sand. Two hundred staff on site, 4,600 guests an hour away, and Andy sitting down for this interview instead. "This is the first time I'm not there, and I'm not worried."
